Overlong but still fascinating, this is the true story of a not-too-clever gang of robbers (led here by Peter Falk) who discovered that Brink's, the gold bullion people, were not much more intelligent than they were, and consequently, in 1950, robbed them to the tune of $2.7 million. Nice period atmosphere, witty script and a breezy style, although there are pros and cons attached to the joky approach, and William Friedkin, while shooting the action set-pieces well, has trouble with his pacing throughout the film. Stay tuned to the end to find out what happened to the robbers in subsequent years.
