Maureen Connolly was the first woman ever to win the Grand Slam - the American, English, French and Australian tennis titles. She was already keen on being a tennis player at the age of nine and this biopic shows her triumphs at Wimbledon and other tournaments, her romance with rider Norman Brinker and the cancer that tragically cut her life short at 34. Glynnis O' Connor takes the title role, with Mark Harmon as her lover and Anne Baxter as her mother, Jess. Perhaps too faithful to the truth, this TV movie has a very long running time and, despite the performances, it may tax even tennis fans' patience.
