This musical-comedy spree was the last film made by Judy Holliday before she died of throat cancer five years later. Here she's her usual dizzy self as a girl who runs a telephone answering service and gets involved in the lives of her customers. The voice she falls in love with belongs to Dean Martin. A lengthy and slow-moving piece in this form, it was originally a stage hit for Judy and was adapted for the screen by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, who wrote the play with Jule Styne. Some fun, with some good songs, too, including 'Just in Time' and 'The Party's Over', even if the script hasn't quite the wit or invention to carry the show and largely wastes the talents of Judy, Dean and Eddie Foy Jr. Jazz fans may spot baritone sax player Gerry Mulligan in a minor role. He was married to Judy at the time of her early death.
