Slow-moving, feeble modern Western that doesn't even have a solid ending, just drifts away like the two anti-heroes, played in painfully arch fashion by Paul Newman and Lee Marvin. They're two bozos, hired in circumstances that should have warned off all but the dumbest to deliver a herd of cattle. Strother Martin is as devious as ever as the man who inevitably lets them down, but it was a poor start for the much-vaunted First Artists (headed by Newman, Barbra Streisand, Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman and Sidney Poitier), an enterprise that lasted only a few years.
