A sort of contemporary Charles Dickens story of a frightfully grim juvenile prison and the efforts of a Nicholas Nickleby-type superintendent (John Ritter from 'Hooperman') to reform conditions. Raphael Sbarge, as the new boy whose experiences prove the catalyst for change, transcends the mawkish sentimentality of his role, and there's a nice change of pace for Betty Thomas (Sgt Lucy Bates in 'Hill Street Blues', and since turned TV director) as a teacher.
