A series pilot film from the writer who hit his stride two years later with 'Moonlighting'. But this is a weaker affair, and lay on the shelf for several years before seeing the light of day. The reason could well have been that after a good start, it sacrifices plot for characterisation and atmosphere (a positive feature of the later Bruce Willis series). Paul LeMat, a much underrated actor, is a booze-soaked private-eye who has to swap detecting for fatherhood when the son he ditched as a toddler turns up on the doorstep. Wil Wheaton, who starred in 'Stand By Me' and the TV series 'Star Trek' - The Next Generation', fleshes out the youngster into a believable character. But at the end of the day the non-existent script finally gets the better of these fine actors.
