This is a captivating companion piece to Channel 4's phenomenally successful 'The Snowman', again based on a Raymond Briggs book. Here, Father Christmas, although complete with white beard, reindeer and sleigh, is a refreshingly worldly fellow, fond of life's pleasures - which we see him pursuing during some of the other 364 days of the year. The animation is a delight, although it all has a sharper edge to it compared to the fuzzy, shimmering outlines of 'The Snowman'. There's lots of humour and the film gently reflects some of the irritation of the festive season while maintaining its magic for children and adults alike. And 'Snowman' fans will specially appreciate the party scene.
