Billy Zane's brooding good looks often had him typecast as a villain in his early career. For example in 1988's Dead Calm, he played the psychopath who slaughtered a boatload of holidaymakers and terrorised Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman. In this truth-based TV movie, he pouts and preens as one of two cousins who posed as cops to waylay and murder 10 women in the Los Angeles area. Just don't expect to discover why, because the film-makers sketch in only the briefest personal history and offer no motivation. Unwisely, the film focuses on the policeman on the case, played with gritty determination by Richard Crenna. But, along with the rest of the cast in this weak effort, he's let down by an appalling script. Hugely disappointing.
