Ricky Schroder dropped the 'y' on his name here as he moved successfully into adult roles. One of the few child actors of the early 1980s to have stayed the distance, he gets a role that's tailor-made for his Californian, blue-eyed, blond-haired good looks, as a 17-year-old suffering the effects of his parents' divorce. His wild behaviour actually gets him committed to a psychiatric hospital, where the doctors' diagnosis is that some teen sex might be just the cure to tame his personal demons! It's a calculated, run-of-the-mill affair, best remembered in fact not for the standard of acting or so-so script, but as the landmark film in which Ricky became Rick. After an umpromising beginning with this and other TV movies, director John Pasquin hit the jackpot with his first big feature film, The Santa Clause.
