An actor and writer has appeared opposite many of Hollywood's big hitters including Sigourney Weaver and Tom Cruise.
He has adapted his own works for the big screen and proved a skilled screenwriter and director as well as an engaging film performer.
Early work on the sketch comedy series The Unnaturals earned him CableACE Award nominations for both his writing and performing.
His feature debut came along in This Is My Life; he played Julie Kavner's comic pal David in the comedy-drama.
Minor roles then followed in Amateur, Heavyweights and Donny Brasco in 1997.
In 1998, he starred in Terrence Malick's Thin Red Line and the Coen Brother's O Brother Where Art Thou in 2000.
Eliciting horror and raves from critics and audiences, The Grey Zone, which he wrote and directed, was an unsettling look at the Jewish enablers at Auschwitz.
Blake Nelson also directed the Othello update O, starring Josh Hartnett and Julia Stiles.
He then starred in the noirish Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston, the comedy drama Cherish and Steven Spielberg's Minority Report.
Subsequent roles have included the Disney adventure Holes and the biopic of porn star John Holmes, Wonderland.
