This simple, but effective drama is the true story of a Vietnam war veteran's struggle to have a memorial to those who died built in Washington. Jan Scruggs (Eric Roberts) has great difficulty going back to an ordinary life and feels guilty about the dead comrades he left behind. The memorial project gives Scruggs' life focus and helps him lay the ghosts of the past. Straightforward direction from Michael Pressman and a good script from Lionel Chetwynd combine to give this film depth. Roberts gives a solid and uncharacteristically uncomplicated central performance, with good support from Glynnis O'Connor and Scott Paulin.
