This okay baseball comedy is the usual Hollywood sporting stuff about the bunch of no-hopers who turn out to be world-beaters. Well put together, it's not as funny as its publicity and reputation would have you believe. Plotwork is by the numbers and characters are stereotypes. But the acting from an all-star cast lends the enterprise an extra dimension, especially from Charlie Sheen as the short-sighted demon pitcher who becomes known as Wild Thing.
