Fortunately, writers and director have avoided saccharine and neat solutions in this TV movie about a custody battle between an alcoholic mother and her daughter for the daughter's retarded sister. The film is a little long but well shot and edited, and Amy Madigan, Olympia Dukakis and Chloe Webb give powerful portrayals.
