You wouldn't usually associate Clark Gable and Joan Crawford with musicals, but here they have plenty of classy support to help carry the score of this backstage saga of a poor-born but honest dancer (Crawford! ) struggling to make it to Broadway without compromising her ideals. Fred Astaire makes his debut with a couple of dance routines, part of an amazing supporting cast that also includes Franchot Tone, Robert Benchley, Nelson Eddy, Eve Arden and The Three Stooges! But nostalgia fans will have to keep a very sharp look-out if they want to spot 'B' movie star Lynn Bari as a chorus girl.
