Pirate spoofs got a bad name around this time, what with Roman Polanski's Pirates, Kirk Douglas's Scalawag and this directionless jumble of comic sketches. The film was actually the brainchild of Keith Moon, drummer with The Who - hence one of the main characters, an evil bosun, being called Moon. Tough to watch, tougher still to laugh at, even with a cast that includes John Cleese, Marty Feldman (his last film), Spike Milligan, Eric Idle and (what was he doing in this? ) James Mason. About as funny as getting keelhauled.
