Ruth Chatterton was a major Broadway star, but her early talkies, though popular at the time, date badly. The script here digs about as deep as an episode of 'Dynasty' and never makes us care about the fates of its wealthy characters. Supporting the star are George Brent and Bette Davis, who were to make six more films together, all of them better than this one.
