This based-on-fact TV movie deals with the murder by Ku Klux Klan members of three civil rights workers in 1964. As it covers pretty much the same ground as Alan Parker's Mississippi Burning, comparisons are inevitable. Murder in Mississippi, though, is a strong and well-made drama with a powerful sense of the mood of the time. It also benefits from a strong cast headed by Tom Hulce and Jennifer Grey as two white civil rights activists and Blair Underwood as the black civil rights worker. Solid direction by Roger Young and a fine script from Stanley Weiser combine to create an excellent and emotionally charged drama.
