A film about drugs, hallucinations and cockroaches, which sets out to disgust us and succeeds admirably. Writer William Lee moonlights as a bug exterminator, but becomes hooked on his own bug powder, shooting his wife (or does he? ) and hallucinating himself into an 'inner zone', where he imagines all the typewriters turn into cockroaches with talking orifices, or gooey monsters with phallic appendages in their heads. Sex and the drive to write, together with the drugs, sends the poor guy on the trip to end them all, but might provide a cure for insomnia for the rest of us. Peter Weller plays Lee morosely; Judy Davis as his wife leers like Glenda Jackson on one of her off days. Just don't ask us what the title means, or we'll catch you a fourpenny one with our cockroach - sorry, we mean typewriter. On balance, Weller could reflect that even RoboCop 3 might have been better.
