Independent film-maker Robert Brooks' first full-length feature, this is an evocative, well told teen drama set in Fifties Brooklyn. Patakango of the title is a minor character who arrives at school with a gunshot wound, but doesn't seem to know how or where he got shot. Meanwhile, Bic (David Knight), a natural leader, takes his friends for a night out in Greenwhich Village where he meets and asks out sophisticated college girl Sandra Bullock, here in her second film. The romance doesn't last, and the film moves on to other themes such as race and police brutality at the time. Period music scores a hit in this largely believable film, made so thanks to its sense of humour.
