Although at times dull, weird and ludicrous by turns, there are times when this off-centre thriller comes close to being very interesting indeed. Sean Young is the DA whose childhood sexual terrors remain lodged in the back of her mind. Small wonder that she becomes obsessed with the case of a fake photographer (Patrick Bergin), who preys on vulnerable women and gets them to make sexually provocative poses before having sex with them. When he begins beating them up as well, and is obviously nearing the edge of violence, Young offers herself as the bait, only to become involved in a game of cat-and-mouse from which she and her career may not recover. Rather too low-key for its own cause, the film gets within striking distance of hitting some disturbing chords. In the end, though, not good; and seeming much longer than it is.
