Stupefyingly unfunny film in the American car chase series, with comic goofballs headed by John Candy taking over behind the wheels of high-speed racers when a thick-skulled cop locks up the real drivers. Second-grade and first-grade stars alike embarrass themselves in this piece, which you may have seen on video as Speed Zone. The film has spills, thrills and product plugs, but very few laughs, as a cast of larger-than-life personalities is encouraged by director Jim Drake to go embarrassingly over the top. Brooke Shields richly deserved her prize as worst suppoorting actress in the year's Golden Raspberry awards.
