A rarely seen but serviceable Edward G Robinson thriller which carries echoes of 'I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang', the classic realist drama from Robinson's old studio, Warner Brothers. This was made over at MGM and there's a certain lack of toughness in the script and supporting cast, although Edward G comfortingly snarls his way through hell and high water as he is framed, sentenced to a chain gang, escapes, is blackmailed, jailed again, and brings the plot to a fiery conclusion.
