Writer/director David Hare wears his politics firmly on his sleeve in this wickedly funny romantic-political-murder-mystery-thriller. The plot is perhaps as big a mouthful as that description of it, but it certainly packs entertainment value. Charlotte Rampling is an ice-maiden Thatcherite Euro MP who will stop at nothing to claw her way to the top of the political heap. But there are so many skeletons in her closet that it's surprising she can keep the door closed! Michael Gambon delivers solid support as her Westminster MP husband who seeks solace in alcohol as his career wanes.
