You will either love or loathe this star-studded TV melodrama based on one of Barbara Cartland's lightwieght but lush novels. It's the story of convent-reared Mistral (Lysette Anthony) who is taken to Monte Carlo by her Aunt Emilie (Sarah Miles) with the hopes of finding the naive girl a wealthy husband. The trouble is, every young man but the one earmarked by her aunt takes a shine to Mistral. And there are dark secrets lurking to make Mistral's life a misery. Well, being a Cartland story, there would be. Glorious costumes and stunning sets don't disguise a severely potholed plot and there's some pretty broad acting, too, from lots of people who perhaps should know better. Christopher Plummer is a Grand Duke and Oliver Reed is a rajah!
