The classically trained actress has impressed cinemagoers in small supporting role in movies including Wide Sargasso Sea and The Bucket List.

She received formal dramatic training at London's Drama School and subsequently acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

She made her big screen debut in writer-director Hanif Kureishi's comedy London Kills Me and subsequently appeared in UK TV staples including A Touch of Frost and Just A Gigolo.

In 1993, she starred in a scene-stealing role in the historial drama Wide Sargasso Sea alongside Rachel Ward and Michael York and provide a rare lead in Welsh director Julian Richards' pagan horror yarn Darklands in 1997.

Her collaboration with Kenneth Branagh, as an attendant in the director's four-hour screen version of Hamlet drew on her RSC background.

She appeared in the 1998 British rom-com So This Is Romance and also landed a small, supporting role in the drama-thriller Proof of Life with Meg Ryan.

Relocating to America, she landed roles in the TV series Half & Half, Alias and Gray's Anatomy.
