The Steve McQueen lookalike first attracted attention in the drama The Perfect Little Man in 1999.
Other notable appearances have included Minority Report, Ravenous and Star Trek: First Contact as well as TV's Band of Brothers.
After graduating from Syracus University, he trained at the London Academy of Dramatic Art and made his feature debut as a dockworker in Darkman.
A series of TV movies followed before he landed a role in Angels in the Outfield and was then cast as Lt Adam Hawk in Star Trek: First Contact.
McDonagh provided the voice for Dr Bruce Bannerman in the TV cartoon The Incredible Hulk and he went on to star in Ravenous with Robert Carlyle.
Following the flop Silent Men in 2000 he considered quitting the business before he was cast in Steven Spielberg's hit World War II series Band of Brothers.
Spielberg then offered him a role in the blockbuster Minority Report with Tom Cruise and subsequent roles included Timeline and the crime drama Machine.
Recent work includes the action drama Walking Tall with The Rock.
