From its dizzying opening thrills, as a woman climber plunges to her death when a rescue goes wrong, this yarn delivers on adventure if not logic. Months later Sylvester Stallone, who may have been at fault, has quit the rescue service when a crisis occurs. Unknown to him, it involves desperate criminals whose mid-air hijack has gone wrong, leaving them crashed in the snow in bad weather, with suitcases containing millions somewhere on the mountain. 'If you don't do this now,' yells Stallone's girl (Janine Turner) 'you're gonna be stuck on a ledge for the rest of your life.' Well, a man can't turn his back on that kind of cliché, and Sly's soon up there battling evil mastermind John Lithgow and his gang. Director Renny Harlin gives us a thrill a minute with hair-raising stunts and one scene not for anyone who dislikes bats. Stallone and Co look the part and you can even hear some of the dialogue above the howling winds and echoing gunshots. Lots of fraying ropes, fingertip holds, avalanches and collapsing bridges. Hang on! - to everything but your thinking cap.
