An unexpected summer hit in America in 1992, this Disney romp is just like the kind of novelty teen comedy the studio was making 20 years ago.
In fact, substitute Brendan Fraser here for Jan-Michael Vincent and this could almost be a re-working of The World's Greatest Athlete.
Sean Astin plays a chubby teenager, striking out with the girls and victimised by the school bully. While excavating for a swimming pool, he finds a caveman frozen in ice 12 feet below the ground.
'Link' is soon the hit of Astin's school, where he masquerades as an Estonian and helps him win the heart of the school prom queen (Megan Ward).
All this is pepped up a bit (but not much) by Pauly Shore's mumblespeak as Astin's zombie-like friend.
Old-stagers Mariette Hartley and Richard Masur are hardly in it as Astin's parents, and all the developments are par for the genre.
Don't see this expecting anything new or meaningful.
