Tom Selleck's film career took a nosedive here; nor is it the kind of sign-off Don Ameche would have wished in films. Comedies come no blacker or battier (and not much worse, either) than this tale of the chaos caused when hapless Jon (Selleck) invites his parents to live with him because his father (Ameche) is suffering from senile dementia. Everyone suffers from then on, the audience especially, as, in the first half of the film, Selleck loses various parts of his anatomy to an assortment of slapstick accidents. The second half features Selleck trying to find ways to end the lives of his parents, at their request. Euthanasia would be a good solution to the whole film, a totally tasteless frolic that may invoke a few uncomfortable giggles.
