That well-worn favourite venue for scriptwriters and directors, the fast-moving train, is used to good effect in this made-for-TV thriller. Burt Reynolds stars as the private eye given the job of escorting a small girl to New York who can, they believe, identify her mother's killer. But assassins are pursuing the girl. Reynolds brings his twinkly-eyed charm to add spark to an admittedly familiar tale. He also doesn't make a bad job of directing, maintaining plenty of tension throughout. It's a pity Reynolds doesn't direct more often. With films like Sharky's Machine and The End to his credit, he obviously has a under-used flair for the job. About the best of the Stryker films.
