Unbearably tense and uncomfortably realistic science fiction thriller, directed (and co-written) by Val Guest in the middle of his best period. Guest builds his suspense flawlessly, as the population of Europe wilts under tropical temperatures-plus, and two diligent journalists uncover alarming reasons behind it all. Well worth staying up late for. Spot, if you can, the young Michael Caine as a policeman, with one memorable line about avoiding Chelsea.
