Jack Smight's feisty romantic thriller (with `Swinging Sixties' trimmings) about a clever gambler. He's also found out as a clever cheat, hence his inability to refuse a police request to help trap a narcotics smuggler (icily played by Eric Porter). A fun film, with Warren Beatty and Susannah York sharing star billing and Clive Revill quite splendid as an unorthodox and faintly sinister Scotland Yard man. By far the funniest scene is that in which Revill and his assistant (Murray Melvin) play cards (for matchsticks) with a pack that they know to be marked. Revill asserts his authority by using a microscope to look at the backs of Melvin's cards - and still succeeds in losing.
