John Osborne's ground-breaking stage success makes the jump to the big screen and consolidates the arrival of new-wave realism - termed 'kitchen-sink' by some critics - in British cinema, begun by Jack Clayton's screen version of John Braine's novel, Room at the Top.
The dialogue bristles with barbs - most of them from the lips of original angry young man Jimmy Porter, providing a prime role for Richard Burton.
Directed by Tony Richardson, the film boats a fine cast, including Mary Ure, Claire Bloom, Edith Evans, Donald Pleasence, Alfred Lynch and Nigel Davenport.
