There have been many 'perfect crime' films but only a few have been as well acted, well directed and well plotted as this. With a cast headed by Edward G Robinson, Rod Steiger and Eli Wallach, and Henry Hathaway in the director's chair, it proves as sharp as a knife. Robinson is an ageing professor who has devised the perfect robbery. With the help of six professional villains, he plans to break into the bank at Monte Carlo and steal $4million. The plan is perfect but what happens in the end would be telling... The whole thing is neat, continuously entertaining and compulsively watchable.
