Adapted from the best-selling Richard Hammer book that was based on an explosive real-life case, this spotlights Henry Thomas, once the boy in E. T. , and newcomer Emily Warfield, as teenagers who are tried for the murder of her mother, whom they try to prove was an abusive monster. Directed by Britain's David Greene, a prolific maker of quality TV movies, this is well-acted and well-made, but simply doesn't have the plot development to keep us hooked for the full running time, sagging into dullness between its dramatic highspots.
