A beautiful woman hires a gumshoe to find her missing husband and he uncovers more than perhaps he should have in this fairly familiar mystery thriller. Familiar, but not too predictable, thanks to a lively script that dodges this way and that. Mark Harmon is good as the private eye, as is Mimi Rogers the woman who's mislaid her spouse. There's also good support from Paul Gleason and Michael Boatman as the cops investigating a string of murders which may or may not have something to do with Harmon's case and from M Emmet Walsh as his partner. Absorbing if far-fetched entertainment, it has all the elements of a good film noir, albeit with a rather lightweight touch. More a film gris.
