Fans of one of the best-loved US TV sitcoms of the Sixties won't want to miss this big-budget remake. But they may be disappointed. For, while the one-joke story of a family of hicks from the sticks striking oil and moving to Beverly Hills, thoroughly discomfiting society there, worked brilliantly for half an hour each week, this extended format, although bright and colourful, lacks the punch and pace to sustain it past three times that length. Even so, some of it is so silly you can't help laughing. Lily Tomlin has a fine old time as prim (but frequently baffled) Miss Hathaway. Lots of corny knockabout comedy then, plus a cameo by Buddy Ebsen, TV's original Jed Clampett - a role taken here by Jim Varney. TAGLINE: The day they moved in - Beverly Hills moved out.
