This is the chimpanzee equivalent of an epic. Skilfully constructed by film-maker Hugo Van Lawick and his team, it reminds you, in more serious style, of those Disney 'true-life adventures' of the Fifties. Donald Sutherland's rumbling tones are ideally suited to the narration of a 20-year tale of triumph, hardship and danger, set in the chimps' homeland on ther shores of Lake Tanganyika. It's a disarmingly simple look at a lifestyle which soon draws you into its cycle.
