A fiercely paced high camp melodrama from New Zealand that's half-way between The Wicked Lady and pornography, this lavishly costumed romp has something to offend just about everyone. In and out of her scarlet dresses, Jennifer Ward-Lealand rolls her eyes and cavorts with an abandon that would have made Margaret Lockwood green with envy. Add dollops of gay and straight sex, to the background of thundering music by Verdi and Berlioz, and you have a sumptuous dose of perversity that would once have been dismissed as an expensive sex film.
