You've got to hand it to Christopher Walken: he makes the most of every opportunity he gets to sparkle. Witness this deliciously rum little item: a British romantic comedy drama, set in the very unpromising world of publishing, where he plays a typically greedy American book publisher whose wish to sign up British best-selling author Jonathan Pryce leads him, improbably enough, into an affair with the irritating Pryce's chicly gorgeous French wife, Carole Bouquet. Good though both Pryce and Bouquet are, the real bouquets all go to Walken, who makes his slyly devious turn the whole show. The anti-men humour may not suit misogynists, but for its on-off intelligence and wit, this is an enjoyable, upmarket lark -- the very kind of thing Kingsley Amis might have turned his bleary eye on. As for the truth behind it, if this is publishing, they'd all be damned.
