This fair-to-middling feminist remake of the famously awful Fifties sci-fi fantasy shown in cinemas in Britain, although made for cable TV in America. Mild-mannered Nancy (Daryl Hannah) has a close encounter with a UFO in the desert, grows to gigantic proportions and goes on the rampage - for revenge on her two-timing husband (Daniel Baldwin). Much attention is paid to lovingly recapturing the spirit of the 1958 original, with harsh lighting, wooden direction and gently mocking low-budget effects. An enjoyable enough romp that gives new meaning to the expression 'tall tale'. Unfortunately though, Hannah, usually well at home in primitive roles, is almost as terrible as Allison Hayes was in the 1958 original.
