Toy Story broke all the rules to become the world's first feature-length animated film completely produced on computer. And it's madcap fun as a boy's toys come to life in his bedroom when no humans are around. They talk, they walk and they get insanely jealous of any new toy on the block. Cowboy Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) is Andy's favourite plaything. But then along comes shiny new spaceman Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) - and suddenly it's war. Animosity soon gives way to help and respect as the toys have to unite against a band of mutant toys - the perverse creations of the mean kid next door. The visuals are a treat, the script a delight, with much of the humour aimed above the heads of kids at their parents. Mr Potato Head, in particular, has a nice line in sarcastic put-downs. To quote Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase, Toy Story sent cartoon capers 'to infinity and beyond'.
