This one is fast and furious all the way down the line, as mad bomber Dennis Hopper makes three attempts to collect several million dollars by placing hostages in a life-threatening situation.

This famous action movie concentrates mainly on the second, as Hopper wires a bus to explode if it goes slower than 50 mph. The driver is accidentally shot while at the wheel when a passenger panics and, with special cop Keanu Reeves at her side, the driving is taken over by Annie (Sandra Bullock) who has appropriately just lost her licence for speeding.

Reeves and back-at-base partner Jeff Daniels try to figure a way out of this impossible situation, pretty difficult as Hopper always seems to be one hop ahead. Framing this breakneck dice-with-disaster are two equally hair-raising episodes in a lift-shaft and on a runaway subway train.

Reeves is tougher than you'd expect from some of his other roles and helps the tension coiled tighter than a fuse wire.

More frenzied editing might have made the last few minutes even more suspenseful - but all in all, this goes like a bomb.
