It's the Simpsons! No, not the cartoon family, alas, but a tacky, unsavoury TV movie rushed into production to cash in on the trial of O J Simpson, the US footballer-turned-actor accused of the horrific double murder of his beautiful wife and her male companion. It's a cross between conventional biopic and an episode of L. A. Law, with Hill Street Blues regular Bruce Weitz coming off best as Simpson's lawyer. The film's only saving grace is that it avoids showing the murders themselves. Director Jerrold Freedman showed what he thought of the finished product by insisting that his name be substituted by the pseudonym 'Alan Smithee' - demanded by all disgruntled directors.
