This strongly cast and well made biopic of former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson makes fascinating viewing - even if you're not a fight fan. The young Tyson (played convincingly by newcomer Michael Jai White) is taken on by trainer Cus D'Amato (George C Scott) and his bumpy ride to fame and fortune begins. It's all here - the marriage to actress Robin Givens, the influence of promoter Don King and the infamous rape case. Givens (Kristen Wilson) is portrayed as the gold digger some suspected she was and King (Paul Winfield) is seen as the manipulative self-server everyone still suspects he is. Okay, the story stops just as Tyson leaves prison so it feels as if it needs updating, but this is still an absorbing and fascinating film. Recommended.
