The most acclaimed film in New Zealand film history was so successful there that more people saw it than Jurassic Park in its year of release. Temuera Morrison gives a memorable performance as the brutal Maori Jake Heke in this unrelentingly full-on domestic drama about a Maori family that never flinches from depicting the onslaught of appalling violence in the daily lives of its characters. Rena Owen also greatly impresses as his troubled wife Beth.
