This sentimental Christmas saga has two plus points: it stars Katharine Hepburn and is based on a story by Truman (In Cold Blood) Capote. Unfortunately they aren't enough to stop this tale of a boy being sent to stay with the father he doesn't know being cliche-ridden and manipulative. Hepburn lifts the film every time she's on screen, but that isn't often enough to save it. Henry (Fonz) Winkler overplays his hand as Dad and the boy, Buddy, is played with too little cuteness and sympathy by young T. J. Lowther.
