Just amusingly enough written to keep you watching, this patchwork of set-piece scenes is a sometimes perceptive, occasionally funny and not too often tedious look at three recently-divorced fathers in charge of their kids for the weekend. Matthew Modine is the flirt who ends up with three prospective conquests for the evening, all bearing culinary gifts. If only they'd arrived at different times. Randy Quaid is the star of the show as the angry Vic, who demolishes the porch which now houses the lounging form of his ex-wife's new lover and would like to do the same to the local talk radio's divorce doctor - a Christmas-present-wrapped part for actor-director Rob Reiner. 'You get married today,' says the radio doctor, 'you stand less chance of staying together than surviving a shark attack.' Not quite true perhaps, but a nice one-liner.
