This story of a dysfunctional Welsh family piles on tragedy with a trowel. 'Some people have got doom written on the inside of their hands' seems to be the motto of the Lewis family, all workless and as dotty as loons. The father disappeared years before and is presumed by younger brother Boyo to be in America. Older brother Sid knows better, and drowns himself in drink, unemployment, self-pity and the seduction of his flighty younger sister. Mother tries to keep these grown children at home where she feels they belong. These are characters on a crash course with disaster. The acting's good, continuity less so, the settings as dark and murky as the local pit. Dismal in every way.
