This crime thriller was written and directed by Michael Mann, the man who gave us the stylish Miami Vice TV series. Here, unfortunately, he has given us some of the style - and similar driving music - but little content in this cat-and-mouse tale of a dogged cop on the trail of a master thief. Scott Plank and Alex McArthur are the cop and robber and neither produces a really involving performance. It could have been a lot better - and indeed it was on a second attempt by Mann himself. The film was remade scene-for-scene for the cinema, given top stars in Al Pacino and Robert De Niro and renamed Heat. It was a box-office smash. This is more of a TV splat.
